Is the Portfolio site of:
Michael Anderson - ( résumé )
Welcome to my portfolio. I have decided to forego
the bells and whistles that often accompany a design portfolio. Instead, let
me show you my work.

MM - SS Michael Moore is coming to Fairmont. I have tickets. It is going to be a pep rally. That sucks. So much for intelligent debate over political points of view. I thought it would be fun to add a little fat to the fire and make some incendiary posters. :) Illustrator was my tool, and I hand traced the photo from a promo image. |

Cons*Piracy A poster design based on a picture of Wallman hall at FSU. It echos the shape of the tower with an obvious and well-known UFO image. The more ironic fact is that I work in the bottom of the building teaching and I have met the aliens that fly it. This was one of the pieces in the show, I enjoyed the comments that people from FSU made about it. |

Foam Coffee Break This was inspired by Swiss object posters, and the simplicity of shapes. What could be simpler than circles and rectangles? Coffee in a foam cup, of course. The type I chose was of a random and topical nature, not a true design decision. In hind-sight I would choose more of an International Typographic Style, but this is an older piece. |

Sixty Dollars Web Site The band just got back together and started gigging again. I have the CD cover art ready to go anytime now. Will re-launch the website together with the CD release. www.sixtydollars.com |

Book 'n' Bean - Fairmont
This place was my hangout for months before they approached me about a sign. I decided that I would make sure the logotype that I made was versatile enough to serve as a card, letterhead, etc. I went through several drafts and stationary-tested all of them. The owners were pleased with the final sign. |

Anderson's Corner - Romney My Mom's business, thus the name. She had a logo hand-lettered several years ago, and I adapted it and digitized it for use on stationary and signs. The website is up, but the content doesn't stay fresh. www.andersonscorner.com |

Bambinos Pizza A take-out business specializing in gourmet pizza and ice cream. They specifically asked for a sign like the Cheers sign. I did what I could. |

Arts Monongahela I entered the logo design contest for arts. My design garnered an honorable mention and was published in the newspaper. I like my logo better than the winner. :) I felt that mountains, though played out, are essential to the design. The main feel of the design is intended to be like a hand-cut print. |

The Sign Shop As the designer and manager of the Sign Shop in Fairmont, I felt that we should have the coolest (this is the adjective that best described my goal) sign in town. This is a newspaper ad for the shop (without the color that’s on the actual sign). |

Main Street Fairmont I heard about this when I was in school. They were looking for a logo, and I immediately thought of a street sign. It was such an obvious solution that I had to at least comp it in B&W. |

Ward Cleaver Who doesn't like to do band logos? The band didn't talk to me, or even e-mail me, so I just made it up as I went. |

ASIC Working for several hours on this little number yielded a nice proof sheet. I gave the proof to the customer and they took it somewhere else to have cards and signs made. So, all I have to show for my work is this little portfolio piece and a lesson learned. |

My logo In case you missed it, my own personal logo is plastered all over my site. It contains letters, thus the designation "logo" (from the Greek "logos" meaning word). I modeled it after an Asian-style stamp, including the vertical position of the letters. I went through many versions of symbols before arriving at this one. The type that I chose is a modern discotheque font, used for its curvy composition. |

My Family Name Shortly before deciding on the logo above, I wanted to use my family crest (Anderson) for a starting point in a logo/symbol. My Chinese zodiac symbol is a wood rabbit, so the tree is perfect. I went through several versions to get a final product that I really liked. It wasn't, however, what I wanted to say about me or my family. Thus it will be recycled. |

Faculty Show @ IADT As a faculty member at IADT, I was very excited about an exihibition of our work. I decided that instead of waiting until the show went up, I would jump the gun and design the poster. :) It was very tongue-in-cheek. |

High Life Lounge I am really anticipating setting up my lights for halloween. Worked on a sign for one of the slot joints in town. Didn't like the other ones, probably won't like this one. Used Illustrator and its groovy blends and offsets. |
